2025 Poetry Contest Winner: The Painter of Mirages by Rachel Tiller

He painted deserts green with rain,
He sold them cheap to those who thirst;
They said, “Your work gives hope through pain.”
He said, “Hope pays, and pain comes first.”
They called him prophet, then they fled,
When drought returned, unframed, untrue;
He sighed, “My art revives the dead—
But can’t convince the living few.”
